CHARLES FIRTH'S RAILWAY 2010

I was once again fortunate to be invited to a private Open Day at Charles Firth's line in Congleton.

The first train I saw was a De Winton Double!

One of the stars of the show was Dave Watkin's SCALE model of "Brick", the early Archangel version being one of the iconic locos which "proved the concept" of narrow gauge live steam in the garden.

The two cylinders are VERY close together inside the frames.........

Unlike the Archangel examples, Dave's is scale size - the real loco was only 4 foot summat tall....and it shows here...........

............. AND HERE!!

A good picture for the New Member's Guide?

It did haul a train - and well! Watch the video!

This Conveyance was built by Dave for his wife Rosalie..........

.................with the "coach" articulated to the "loco"..........

......... the whole powered by a Binnie steam motor..........

........... and operated by Rosalie!

Dave also brought "Detritus" his famous GENUINE Diesel loco................

......... powered by an aircraft glowplug engine..

Before I'd arrived, there'd been a wedding, resulting in this Wedding Train........

............ powered by a Roundhouse Diesel.

There were times when we were queuing up to take photos.................

.

This visiting Roundhouse Hunslet used to be resident here and has been considerably improved with considerable added detail.

There are a couple of new shops in the village............

........ selling an esoteric mixture of goods!

I know he's fixing the engine, but what about the suspension? Shouldn't that front wheel be on the tarmac?

This Accucraft "Lyn" did its turn...........

........ with the stone train.

Then a comparative rarity - a pair of Wrightscale Wrens........

............. running in double harness.

"Are we ready??"

An impeccable run ensued.

I remember this Finescale Gamecock from last year............

....... about to cross the crossing at the "other" end of the village - thank goodness for digital zoom!

Whilst some locos took their well-earned rest.........

...... a train ran in the OPPOSITE direction...........

....... hauled by a modified Edrig which now looks more "scale".

My thanks to Charles and the other local members for their hospitality.
