The Perrygrove Railway is a delightful 15" gauge railway in Gloucestershire, built on the "estate railway" principles established by Sir Arthur Percival Heywood in the early part of the 20th Century at Eaton Bank near Duffield in Derbyshire.
The train starts at the bottom of the hill...........
.......... and goes up through the woods, going around 3 "s" bends.....................
............. before arriving at the top station.............
............. where you'll find this rather odd Lister and the PW van acting as a buffer stop.
Chasing the train is something of a challenge...............
......... as the woodland is very thick and there are few (if any) paths - all part of the "visitor experience".
In the shed alongside the station is a selection of genuine and replica Heywood stock - the bogie brake.............
..............the replica dining car.........................
............. laid for a meal...................
........... cooked on the on-board stove.
This is a standard wagon. It's actually a flat, and the raised body sides can be removed.
There is also the dynamomter car from Eaton Bank.............
.......... complete with measuring equipment.
Wagons from Duke of Westminster's Eaton Hall Railway..........
Detail of wagon from Eaton Hall.
Cast iron sleepers from Duffield Bank.
The passenger service is mainly operated by this Exmoor-built loco..........
......... though there is this Heywood replica lurking in the shed.
