Statfold (apart from being a stunning railway) have a superb collection if cast signs - this one caught my eye in particular!
Last year's restoration was this Baguley inspection car, which is completely double-ended. Note that the two outer rails of the 2 foot gauge lines are 4' 8½” apart - another cunningly planned small detail. Just a very small section of the sign collection (but a very big wall)........ As somebody with an interest in canals, this Midland Railway sign also coaught my eye.......... So, through the engine shed............ ........................ to the delights outside! Jerry M was visiting from Hollycombe - 38 is its fleet number there. The Harrogate Gasworks Peckett is what the Field Line was built for - when you've got a loco with 7000lbs of tractive effort, you've got to have somewhere to run it! "Ah - innit CUTE!"
Pakis Baru No 5 looked very well............. Thanks to Jon Rowe, I can now tell you that this loco was Bagnall-built 4-4-0 Isibutu........ A pair of Hunslets on the passenger service........ ........ and Harrogate with a BIG load!
There's an interesting view of the new station off the overbridge....... They collect boundary markers, too........... ............... LOTS of them! Statfold takes the Bredgar stock for a spin.........
.......... and Stanhope drifts down the bank. Harrogate about to raise a few echoes............ One of the delights about this place is that when you wander in a shed, you find all sorts of things, like the stencils used on crates from Hunslet......... .......... and Kerr Stuart! People taking pictures................... The newest restoration, Sragi No 1 on a train including two of the specially-built seed wagons which are used at harvest time. Pakis Baru No 1 arrives at the passing loop........... ........... and Statfold sets off on the last stretch of the run. Note the rapidly descending roof line (and the new 2' 6" gauge coach) The crew of Sragi No 1 take a drink as they wait for a train to pass. Big & Little - Tranokil No 4 pilots Statfold: the next-to-the-newest piloting the newest! The Garden Train was in the charge of Howard, the new Kerr Stuart Wren (with Hunslet plates) which has now gone to Kew Bridge Steam Museum, where it's been named Thomas Wicksteed. Harrogate at it again......... At the end of the afternoon, Howard was allowed a romp on the Field Line - here it is at the far end. As this is a dual gauge railway with a bolloon loop at the far end, the 2' gauge "bit" has to swap sides - this is how it's done!
Sragi No 1 come down with the staff to double-head the last train back and get all the staffs back where they belong. My thanks to all at the Railway for a memorable day. |
