OVER HADDON VILLAGE

Elsecar 2006 saw the MDLR going into the property business big-time!

These 4 Tuxcraft buildings are the start of Over Haddon village, which in real life is much further above the railway (like over 100 feet) than we are able to achieve in the garden! The buildings have merely been plonked into something like their final positions at this stage - the next stage will be to build a street for them to front onto: then they'll get painted and a little bit of detail may well get added.
There are Dark Mutterings from the Domestic Authorities, to the effect that "a village ought to have a church" - there is room....................

.............. and Lo! at Christmas 2006, look what arrrived!

Again it's from Tuxcraft, again it's not yet painted, and if I thought the other buildings were heavy.................

Easter 2007 sees much progress made - the buildings have been painted and excavations have been started...........

..................... for Main Street.

The shuttering for the concrete is stripwood.

Note that the first two street lights have been sited - the wire runs under the street!

The concrete was a bit of a pig's ear - I'd got mortar (with sand in) in stock and bought concrete (with stone in) to finish the job with!

However, once I'd added a little concrete to the far end it didn't look too bad............

........ and with a base built for the Big House (coz I'd taken too much soil out) and all set in place............

............... it's starting to look a whole lot more realistic!

The street lighting was courtesy of Newdigate Models - the lamp posts were originally part of a B&Q garden lighting set, to which Newdigate Models added a base.............

.............. which they DON'T tell you has to be drilled out! Removing the "decoration" on the top and some of the fancy bits around the lantern made them look acceptably British.

One was set near The Old Forge Garage, which now has a petrol pump......................

Once all the lamp posts had been set...........

................ the wiring and batteries were installed...............

.............. with an effect which is quite delightful (apart from the fact that the "Hi-Di-Hi" shop couldn't supply 4 LED's the same, hence the one bright one!)
